SB Running Co hosted an Ugly Christmas Sweater Fun Run! Much fun and merriment was had by all. Runners gathered at SB Running Co Saturday afternoon to admire the variety of ugly sweaters and Christmas attire. Mark, Patty, and Tyler joined me and many SB locals for the festivities.
Kate got everyone organized and sent us on our way. We shuffled along for two miles along the oceanfront and returned to the store. Post-run refreshments included free beer from Telegraph. SB Mountain racers also got lucky during the raffle which included from prizes from the SB Running Company and Rabbit. The perfect holiday fun run! Thanks SB Running Co & sponsors.
Congrats to Tyler, Patty, and Mark on great 5k trail races!! Congrats Tyler on a first place finish! All three competed in the Elings Terrain Festival 5k. There was also a 3k for kids and a 3k for dogs. Maybe next year I’ll sign up for the 3k and see if they let me borrow a dog. 🙂 The Elings Terrain Festival is a fundraiser for cross country teams at the three local high schools: Santa Barbara High, Dos Pueblos, and San Marcos. The Elings Terrain Cup goes to the high school with the most paid race entries. Thus race turn-out is usually high. Post-race fun includes live music, food, and a beer garden (not for the high school students, just the parents).
Three speedy trail runners. According to their website, the course includes “dirt, sand, hills, switchbacks, grass.” Crest many of the hill tops and you’ll be treated to ocean views. Tyler flew through this tough course to finish first with a time of 18:37. Mark and Patty weren’t far behind with times of 23:11 and 26:44. Go team!
Congrats Monica, DeAnna, and Dave on finishing CIM!! CIM is a road marathon with a net elevation loss, an ideal Boston qualifier. CIM is a point-to-point course which starts near the Folsom Dam and ends at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. The marathon distance often attracts over 9000 runners. Thankfully the first section of the course includes wide streets to prevent congestion. CIM promises amble aid, massive crowd support, and on-course entertainment.
Weather in Sacramento in early December promises cool temperatures and sunny skies (although past years have included rain) based on 33 years worth of data. This year did not disappoint. Temperatures were cool and the weather was perfect for a long road run.
Monica and DeAnna ran and finished together, getting in some good training miles on the roads. Dave also ran well. Other local road runners joined the crowd including Maggie Mason, Lisa Dosch, Jana McKee, and Jamie. Local legend Curly ran a smoking fast time of 2:21:21 for 14th overall. Great job to all on representing SB!
