Congratulations to Monica, DeAnna, and Dave on running 100 miles at Cascade Crest! 100 miles of beautiful, green trails in Easton, Washington. Not an easy 100 miler, this course contains over 22,000 ft of elevation gain and has very few crew access points. The stunning scenery makes up for the difficulty. Towering trees provide plenty of shade and everything is green and growing. There are even lakes, waterfalls, and rivers. The course is primarily single-track trail with about 25% on forest roads with the highest elevation at 5800 ft. Very different scenery compared to the wildfires and drought Santa Barbara is currently experiencing.
Cascade Crest was Monica’s first 100 mile race. Very exciting! She is tough – this is not a typical “starter” 100 miler. Joe was able to meet the group at about mile 25 for the first time and again when he began pacing Monica at mile 54. DeAnna and Dave, both having completed their first 100 miler at Rio Del Lago last November, were running solo. All three were hoping for a Hardrock qualification here. The race began at 9 am Saturday morning and had a generous cutoff time of 34 hours. Not that any of our runners needed to worry about the cutoff times. 🙂
Our three SB Mountain racers gave incredible performances. Monica crushed her first 100 miler! She finished in the top 50 overall in a difficult race. Dave had an awesome day as well, finishing under 27 hours and 38th place overall. DeAnna showed herself to be one tough lady. Despite suffering from stomach issues for over half the race, she kept pushing forward to finish 52nd overall. Congratulations to all three! You earned those snazzy belt buckles and Hardrock qualifications. Relax and recover – you earned it!
